Beerus's relationship with his angel attendant, Whis, is that of a master and servant, yet Whis often acts as a babysitter to keep the god from destroying everything in a fit of rage. The God of Destruction is bound by a cosmic balance; if he were to die, his attendant, Whis (the Angel), would enter hibernation until a new successor was chosen. In Their Own Story
Beerus's journey began in slumber, waking from a decades-long nap to find his attendant Whis nagging him about Earth. En route to investigate the planet that boasted a Super Saiyan God, he arrived at Bulma’s birthday party—a trivial gathering where a minor insult from Vegeta nearly triggered total planetary erasure. It took Goku’s desperate ritual with five other pure-hearted Saiyans to unlock the Super Saiyan God form and buy Beerus time for a taste of Earth's cuisine. Satisfied by the food and impressed by the power, he spared the planet, shifting from an agent of doom to a sporadic ally who tests warriors through sparring rather than lectures.
